Biography

Born and raised in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Richard Augustin held his first guitar when his older brother Philippe Augustin placed it in his hands as a young boy.  He was only eleven years old when the bond between him and his music started.  After years of self-taught music theory and choir participation in the Catholic Church, this yet unpolished musician knew, upon writing his first composition, that his life was destined to evolve around music.  Therefore he took music writing and reading classes, lessons in classical guitar, Bossa Nova, Jazz understanding. Richard’s live appearances include several prestigious performances in the U.S.A. and abroad, including the Midsummer Night Swing Festival hosted by the Lincoln Center, the famous Upper West side Jazz club Smoke, the Lion’s Den in the Greenwich Village, the OAS building in Washington, D.C., and the Haitian National Palace prior to the earthquake.
